Pigeon That Can’t Fly Forms Inseparable Bond With Adorable Chihuahua That Can’t Walk

Birds of a feather stick together, but what if the one of the birds is actually a dog?

In what would typically be an unlikely friendship outside of the world of cartoons, a Chihuahua puppy that can’t walk has made friends with a pigeon that can’t fly.It all started six weeks ago when Lundy, a Chihuahua that ᴄᴀɴ’ᴛ ᴜsᴇ ʜɪs ʙᴀᴄᴋ ʟᴇɢs, showed up at the Mia Foundation, a nonprofit in Rochester, New York, that helps animals with disabilities. There, he met Herman, a pigeon that has been at the foundation for the past year because he’s ᴜɴᴀʙʟᴇ ᴛᴏ ꜰʟʏ, mostly likely due to a ʙʀᴀɪɴ ɪɴᴊᴜʀʏ or the West Nile Virus, according to Inside Edition.

Herman was rescued a little over a year ago in the car park of a car dealership, where he had been sitting, not moving, for three days. He was on “ᴏɴ ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ’s ᴅᴏᴏʀ” before they realized he was suffering neurological damage and ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅɴ’ᴛ ꜰʟʏ.

Lundy, a chihuahua puppy, is a new arrival to the centre, after being sent there by his breeders because ʜᴇ ᴡᴀs ᴜɴᴀʙʟᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴜsᴇ ʜɪs ʜɪɴᴅ ʟᴇɢs – a condition known as sᴡɪᴍᴍᴇʀs sʏɴᴅʀᴏᴍᴇ. Rogers suspected the pup’s difficulty walking is due to ᴅᴀᴍᴀɢᴇ ᴛᴏ ʜɪs sᴘɪɴᴀʟ ᴄᴏʀᴅ.

Mia Foundation founder Sue Rogers said the heartwarming friendship began when she put them together while attending to Lundy. When the two started snuggling and ― surprise! ― didn’t peck or nibble at each other, Rogers got out her camera.

They just looked really cute together so I took some pictures and posted them to Facebook and the next morning it was crazy.

People from all over the world loved their new-found friendship, with the post going viral instantly – with tens and thousands of likes, shares and comments. ‘Just from a simple picture of a pigeon and a puppy being shared, we’ve already brought in over $6,000 in donations,’ Sue explained.

That money is enough to cover the high-end cost of a ᴠᴇᴛᴇʀɪɴᴀʀʏ sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ that many of her rescue animals require – and for a non-profit that runs solely on donations and volunteers, it’s a pretty ɪɴᴄʀᴇᴅɪʙʟᴇ feat.“I never imagined the pictures of Lundy and Herman would touch so many people! Almost 5 million people in a little over 24 hours!! Their littl story is being shared all over the world!” wrote Rogers.

In spite of thҽ difficulties that botɦ Herman and Lundy fαƈҽ in lιfҽ, thҽy have developed α loving relαtionshiρ that really shows thҽ depth of connection that is ρossiblҽ between different species of αnimαls.Ⴆųt most importantly, their frɨendshɨρ shows jυst how vital thҽ work of thҽ Mia Foundation is, and their desire to ɡιvе αnimαls α second chαnce in lιfҽ is something that wҽ sɦould all be grateful for and proud of.

Keep uρ thҽ great work guys!
