“A picture is worth a thousand words … and Ritter’s is no different…Ritter’s ɴᴇɢᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ reaction to the shelter was immediate and Hᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ.” That’s how The Humane Society for Hamilton County in Iɴᴅɪᴀɴᴀ introduced the Hᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ photo of the dog when he was ʟᴇꜰᴛ at a shelter

Ritter was dropped off at the shelter because his family lost their home. In the photo, the 4-ʏᴇᴀʀ-ᴏʟᴅ Aᴍᴇʀɪᴄᴀɴ Bulldog who has lived with dogs and children is slumped on the side of the kennel. His head is lowered in ᴅᴇᴊᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ and sᴀᴅɴᴇss.

“Ritter’s reaction to the shelter was immediate and Hᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ,” the shelter wrote online. “This is the reality our animals face every day – Hᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋ and a sense of ʜᴏᴘᴇʟᴇssɴᴇss.”Even it seems like the world ends for him, there is hope for Ritter. It always will! So the shelter tried everything in their power to find a loving family for Ritter.

“We are his second chance — it’s time to help this boy find a place to live, love, and be loved,” the society said. “A place for his heart to ʜᴇᴀʟ. We need to share his face and his story. Ritter’s happily ever after is out there.”

As it turns out, their optimism was not misplaced. Ritter has found a new home.

Thankfully, the photo taken by Alan Wlasuk – volunteer at the shelter, went absolutely ᴠɪʀᴀʟ on social media and it did not take too long until a kind woman offered to adopt Ritter, which she did eventually. “I adopted him!,” the woman wrote. “Get to pick him up Thursday and love him forever.”

The shelter also take Facebook to thank everyone for their involvement, but to also remind them they still have so many other adorable animals, ready to meet their new parents. “Our hopeful request is that each of you will now consider adopting one of the hundreds of animals still waiting…most far longer than Ritter (like Polly also pictured here who currently holds the longest wait record in our care)…and all with an equally Hᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴠɪʀᴀʟ photo that has yet to be taken,” the society said.
