It’s always nice to have a pet in the house – and very often people love the company a feline friend can offer, without taking up too much space. But while one woman in Russia adores her gorgeous kitten, he takes up a little more room than the average puss.
Yulia lives in the small Russian town of Stary Oskol. She bought Kefir, named after a milky drink, almost two years ago as a small Maine Coon kitten. However, even after all this time, he’s still growing.
Though he’s less than 2-year-old yet, Kefir already weighs around 28lbs. That’s a lot if you think the average Maine Coon male could reach up to 18lbs and then on top think about he’ll continue to grow until he’s 3-4 year old. I just can’t even imagine how large he will be! But that doesn’t seem to bother his human, who looks more than happy to cuddle with the biggest furball in the world. Anyway, even her was taken by surprise by how large Kefir is growing!
However, as his size appears daunting, Yulia says when strangers who have never seen Kefir before come to the house, they’re left baffled by the regal creature greeting them at the door. “But when strangers come to the house, everyone first confuses him with a dog,” Yulia said.
Despite Kefir’s massive stature – he’s bigger than some dogs, after all – Kefir is a big softy really. Happy to cuddle and nuzzle against his favorite humans, Yulia says that Kefir has a heart of gold. “The look is generally like that of a person,” says Yulia, “and Kefir has a formidable appearance, but he is a very affectionate and modest child.”
Kefir’s bulky fur adds to his substantial silhouette, so he’s groomed to relieve him of the weight and reduce shedding. It appears he doesn’t know his own strength, either, with Yulia adding: “He has one more habit: at night he likes to climb on me and sleep. When he was a kitten, it didn’t cause me any inconvenience. But now he has become big and heavy, and, of course, it is difficult to sleep like that.”
Yuliya constantly shares photos and footages with her and her kitten online, where Kefir is a rising star.
