Among the many harrowing stories emerging from the ᴡᴀʀ in Ukraine, there are tiny pockets of love and joy. Social media users have gone wild for the heartᴡᴀʀming tale of a Siberian husky named Yukki who is set to be reunited with his owners after they were separated during an ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋ near their home in Bucha, where innocent civilians were ᴍᴀssᴀᴄʀᴇᴅ by Russian forces.
His owner Marina, a mother of three, fled with her children when the sʜᴇʟʟɪɴɢ started but their dog Yukki, sᴘᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ by the noise, ran away.
After briefly returning to the house, Yukki was sᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ away during another ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋ and roamed the streets until he was found by Ukrainian serviceman Andriy Smirnov, who took to social media to share his story.
Smirnov shared a picture of a Siberian Husky on his Facebook in search of its owner. He wrote: “Bucha, such a little one running around the house. There are no owners, we will look for them.”
The post received over 6,000 shares and was liked 1,500 times. And luckily Marina saw the dog on Smirnov’s post and she commented ‘This is our Yukki!!’
Marina shared that during the sʜᴇʟʟɪɴɢ, her beloved dog Yukki ᴘᴀɴɪᴄᴋᴇᴅ and ran away. She and her family searched for him but to no avail. This breaks their heart as they have no choice but to leave the city without him.
Marina explained how she remained in contact with her neighbour who said that Yukki came back home but the house had ʙᴜʀɴᴇᴅ down after it was ʜɪᴛ by a ʀᴏᴄᴋᴇᴛ. The neighbour took Yukki in but when sʜᴇʟʟɪɴɢ resumed in Bucha, the dog ran away again. Luckily Yukki was found by Smirnov.
Yukki is still with Smirnov who is taking care of him until Marina can safely return to collect Yukki and take him back to his family. Thank you for the courage and kindness of Mr. Smirnov for helping a sweet Husky. We pray for Smirnov’s safety in the ᴡᴀʀ.
