Husky Lᴏsᴛ In The Woods, Caught On Camera Making Friends With A Buck

One of the worst feelings in the world is having your beloved pet run away. You’ve no idea where they are, what they are up to, whether they’re okay or need help. Rachel Howatt is well familiar with this feeling.

In late December, Rachel’s husky Koda got loose and ran away. She searched the woods nearby to her house but to no avail. Then eventually, a few days later, the trustworthy pup showed up back at home in Manitoba, in Ontario, Canada, like nothing ever happened.  But as cameras later revealed, she was up to an adventure.

“We definitely searched for her, but in the end she just came back,” Howatt said. “She is really smart, so I didn’t doubt she could find her way home.”

It wasn’t until a few days later that Howatt thought to check with her neighbor, who has a trail camera in the woods by their home, to see if Koda had been spotted at all. Sure enough, Koda had been picked up on the camera — and she wasn’t alone.

Photos from a trail camera show Koda during her disappearance, tagging along with a wild deer and even giving the much larger animal a playful lick on the nose. Koda and the buck appeared to follow each other around, and one photo shows the dog curled up while the deer stands guard.

Although Rachel hopes Koda doesn’t run away again, she is certainly relieved, that her dog was simply making new friends. She adds: “Huskies have such a free spirit, it doesn’t surprise me at all that Koda was trying to make a new friend.”

The two of them are so adorable and one has to wonder what prompted the unlikely friendship, since large wild dogs would be a natural ᴘʀᴇᴅᴀᴛᴏʀ of deer. But there they are, clearly unafraid and enjoying each other’s company.  What sweet friends they make!
