Dogs are friendly and playful by nature. They love to play anytime and anywhere. They’re curious creatures, too, especially when they see other animals come near them. They sniff them and wonder if they want to play (or as we can assume that’s what they want).
No dog would ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋ or ʜᴀʀᴍ anything if not given any reason to. And that applies even when they lose their favorite toy to someone (or something) else. They’ll look, turn, and walk away – with a sad heart, of course. That’s what happened to poor Lucy.
Lucy, a fun-loving dog who enjoys nothing more than playing at the beach with her family — and her beloved tennis ball. But recently, during one such outing, Lucy’s good time with that cherished toy was unexpectedly cut short.
The other day, while Lucy and her family were at the shore near their home in South Africa, they caught the attention of a curious octopus. The eight-armed animal decided to move in closer — soon revealing what it was that interested him most. The pup could never have guessed what would happen next.
Lucy accidentally dropped the ball, and the waves washed it away. The water was starting to rise as high tide was coming in. Suddenly, an octopus swam to the shallows and bam. It got hold of Lucy’s ball, wrapping its tentacle around it.
Riette Creighton, Lucy’s owner, was also as surprised to witness what happened. “I think my reaction was the same as Lucy’s. I’ve never experienced anything like it. This was just next level!”
According to Almar Creighton, Riette’s husband, Lucy gave them a questioning look. The poor thing was confused about whether she’d get the ball or just let the octopus take it. She has no idea what to do with the situation. She can only look.
The octopus also seems to like the ball and it has no intention of returning it. Creighton says they stood there for about 20 minutes, hoping to get the ball back for their beloved dog. However, the octopus grabbed the ball and brought it down into the abyss.
Although she ʟᴏsᴛ her favorite ball, the next day Lucy received a new one.
