Separating from his best friend was something difficult to cope with, especially since the goodbye was given due to the effect of the ᴄᴏʀᴏɴᴀᴠɪʀᴜs pandemic, which has alienated families from their older adults, as this age group is the most ᴠᴜʟɴᴇʀᴀʙʟᴇ to contagion. But a great love knows how to wait and the sweet reunion with his grandfather arrived.
But, just as these people, who have to remain confined, miss the warm embrace of their loved ones, animals also suffer the absence of their loved ones. This is the story of a grandfather, who after being separated from his Dᴇᴀꜰ and Bʟɪɴᴅ dog Bitsy for a year, doubted whether she would recognize him.
As Hayden’s father Steve Kristal, 64, approached, Bitsy, 5, was initially unaware of his presence – but all that changed once the shepherd caught a whiff of Steve’s scent. Bitsy immediately began jumping on Steve and squealing with joy, instantly recognizing the man who she had shared a bond with for so many years before they were separated.
“Bitsy is the sweetest, friendliest, most loving and loyal dog in the world,” Hayden told The Dodo. “She is bold and sassy and she loves adventure!” And, she loves her grandpa, who Hayden says spoils Bitsy with toys and treats. However, once the pandemic hit, the time Bitsy was able to spend with Steve came to a grinding halt. The pair hadn’t seen each other in a year, and Steve was nervous that Bitsy would forget who he was when they were eventually able to reunite in early March.
“As soon as I got within scent range, she totally ʟᴏsᴛ her mind with joy,” Steve Kristal wrote on Facebook. “So did I.” “Once again Bitsy proved that the abilities she has are far more impressive than the ones she’s missing,” he added. “What a truly amazing and wonderful soul. Maybe you can tell from this video how much we love each other.”
