After 500 days in a shelter, one lucky pooch has received its Christmas wish: a forever home.
Bonita, a six-year-old mixed breed dog, was filmed jumping for joy and excitedly wagging her tail as staff at the the Niagara SPCA animal shelter threw confetti, cheered and clapped as she was escorted out of the building by her new family.
Bonita arrived at the shelter on August 13, 2018. But despite her sweet disposition, she had trouble finding a home because she couldn’t be in a home with small children or other dogs. However thankfully, the story has a happy ending for Bonita as after spending all that time at the Niagara SPCA in Niagara Falls, New York, the five-year-old pit bull mix has been adopted.
Kimberly LaRussa, the event coordinator at the Niagara SPCA said, “Everybody loves her so much, and a lot of our employees are used to seeing her every day, so I know we are all going to miss her like crazy.”
LaRussa added, “She gets to be the lady of the house, which I’m sure is a dream come true for her.”
The video of Bonita leaving the Niagara SPCA is nothing short of heartwarming because you can see how impossible it is for her to contain her excitement.
Employees at the shelter threw Bonita a proper farewell by forming a human tunnel for her to pass under, as well as tossing glitter in the air for the happy dog.
Bonita’s new owner, Ray Kinz, has since started an Instagram page for the pit bull mix in order to keep fans up to date on how she’s settling in. Now that she’s out of the shelter, Bonita is living her best life! She’s so happy to have a bed to sleep in and people to snuggle with.
Her adopter, Ray Kinz, is grateful to the people who took care of her while she awaited their fated meeting. “Bonita is home and couldn’t be happier! Thank you Niagara Country SPCA for taking such good care of her! She will be so much inspiration for me to write about.”
