It is ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ to realize that somewhere in the world, there are dogs who get neglected and are left to live in misery, without people to love them back. Violet, the Shar-Pei, used to be one of these abandoned animals. But, that was until Whitney Cummings found her and gave her another lease in life.
The first stop after freeing Violet from the shelter was the vet’s office. The volunteers were nervous to see what she weighed. You could see every bone on Violet’s body. The numbers don’t lie, a Shar-Pei should weigh between 40-60 lbs. Violet was under twenty. Their ʜᴇᴀʀᴛs ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ for the poor dog. Why would anyone do this to an innocent animal?
Violet’s first week in Whitney’s house was full of adjustment. Whitney tried to pet Violet and calm her down. She felt every vertebra in her spine. Then Whitney kneeled down and the way Violet looked at her confirmed her suspicions. Violet had no idea what love was. This was a turning point for the sweet girl. Her life was surely about to change!
One of the most ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ-ᴡʀᴇɴᴄʜɪɴɢ moments that Whitney shared was when Violet had her first meal in the house. At first, she was hesitant to dig in but when she started munching on the food, the dog instantly liked it and ate with gusto.
It was also a bittersweet moment when Violet went to his doggie bed for the first time. It was a soft and fluffy bed that was meant to make her feel most comfortable. Her hesitation only showed how she was treated in the past. She was testing the bed as if asking herself “Is this really for me?”
Violet eventually went to bed and enjoyed sleeping in her new home. It was such an emotional moment that Whitney shared online. Seeing the neglected dog finally come to a home full of love is certainly a sweet moment that touched the hearts of many.
Within two months from adopting Violet, the dramatic change in the dog’s health and overall wellness becomes obvious. She is definitely improving and her bubbly attitude has surfaced. She was introduced to other dogs, and eventually started to play with them. From a scared and lonely pup, Violet has transformed into a healthy and happy doggo. We are very pleased with that.
