In Roseburg, Oʀᴇɢᴏɴ, a barn ꜰɪʀᴇ ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ ᴏᴜᴛ and resulted in ᴛʀᴀɢᴇᴅʏ. Several of the family’s farm animals ᴘᴇʀɪsʜᴇᴅ, and among them was a litter of seven puppies. Their mother, a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees / Border Collie mix named Daisy,  sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇᴅ the blaze. She was  ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇᴅ from  ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀ while attempting to enter the blazing barn to save her babies. In the days that followed the devastating accident, Daisy became utterly ᴅᴇᴘʀᴇssᴇᴅ. “She’s just been so sad and so ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴏᴋᴇɴ,” told owner Jessica Woodruff. “She just goes down to the barn and just sits there and tries to look for them still. She ǫᴜɪᴛ eating.”

Her owner, Jessica Woodruff, believes the blaze, which also ᴋɪʟʟᴇᴅ four goats and a pig, was sparked by a heat lamp keeping the dogs warm.

“It all happened within minutes,” she told. “It’s ʜᴏʀʀɪʙʟᴇ.” Daisy was ᴅᴇᴠᴀsᴛᴀᴛᴇᴅ.

“She came running from another barn that we have,” Woodruff said. “My husband and his two friends had to hold her back.” Following the fire, Daisy often returned to the burned-out barn to sit in sadness while ᴡʜɪɴɪɴɢ and whimpering.

Any animal lover (or living person with a  sᴏᴜʟ) would be ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴏᴋᴇɴ to hear of Daisy’s story.  “Daisy  ᴡᴀɴᴅᴇʀᴇᴅ the 80+ acres lost, sad, and confused,” as any mother who had just  ʟᴏsᴛ her babies would be. Woodruff’s heart ached for her beloved dog of two years, whom she had gotten as a gift for her son’s birthday. She knew she had to do something to help, saying, “As a mother, I couldn’t fathom her  ʟᴏss. My first thought was to get her a foster pup or pups. The search was on.” Woodruff and her sister posted their story and a plea for help on a local Facebook page to start the search for temporary foster puppies. After that initial post, the ball really started rolling.

“We were trying to decide if we should get a dog that’s closer to her size but we didn’t want to separate a litter, so it just made sense to go with a litter that was ᴏʀᴘʜᴀɴᴇᴅ,” Barnett said. That’s when fate brought them Lorna Murphy and her eight puppies. Murphy’s dog Chloe had passed away just a few days after giving birth, leaving the pups without a mother. Baby Koala Is Hand-Raised by 2 Humans After She Gave Up Her Mom’s Pouch to Orphan

“She called me and said she had eight puppies that needed a mom because she was ᴇxʜᴀᴜsᴛᴇᴅ trying to feed them all every two hours,” Woodruff said.“She’s amazing. She doesn’t go down to the barn anymore and she’s got this smile now and it’s so heartwarming to see her smile again,” she said. It has been a huge endeavor of everyone pulling together to keep these eight little beauties going with around-the-clock feedings,” she said. When they heard about Daisy’s story and her family’s search for babies to care for, they knew that their motherless litter would be perfect for the maternal dog to foster. After the mama dog and the puppies met, it was clear that the arrangement was going to be a huge success. Lorna and Jessica arranged a meeting so Daisy could see the puppies
